Until Nintendo officially announces the long rumored Nintendo Wii HD, current Wii owners (myself included) are just going to have to continue to enjoy the console’s 480p Standard Definition graphics. That is, of course, unless you can get your hands on the handy, dandy Wii emulator, Dolphin, which is capable of producing 720p HD video.

And just so you don’t accuse me of pulling your Luigi, check out this video of the emulator running Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy. Let the ooh-ing and ahh-ing commence.

And if you somehow have a little bit of drool left, you'll be please to know that a NeoGaf forum member has posted a handful of gorgeous screenshots that will have you disapprovingly shaking your head at your Wii for not being capable of producing the kinds of visuals on display in these pics. Here's one to get things started:

    That's awsome now no one can say anything about the Wii's graphics being bed. And only half of them are.

    lol DPsx7, seriously? I bought my Wii the first day it came out. I waited in line for 8 hours, It's got some great games but seriously I'd like you to plug your Wii into your SD set and compare it to my PS3 running lets say SFIV(The cartoonish graphics should be a good comparison to most Wii games) on my 47" Samsung LED LCD.

    That's thick-headed of you. Nin isn't the one producing shovelware, it's the third parties taking advantage of the largest userbase. Do you people know how anything works? Sheeze.

    Again, Nin knows how to produce the best games and they understand we don't need to pay for fluff like HD graphics and super advanced hardware. Clearly you're all wrong because millions have purchased one and enjoy it. I will say the 'pointer' part of the controller will make it much better for FPS's than analog sticks ever will be. They become like lightgun games.

    The day Nintendo makes an HD system with excellent hardware and not so much shovelware is the day Nintendo rightfully becomes the king of gaming.

    I'm not sure what is the difference between 480p and 720p is it higher resolution? It honestly to me looks the same on my wii can i have side by side comparison?

    @sukTHEfac,
    I think the graphics card that the system has, has more to do with why Geras and Killzone 2 look better than Mario Galaxy, then it being in HD.

    Of course I don't. I know what I saw in the store so why would I throw away money to buy one? They're overpriced, fragile, and the image can't match a tube-based TV. I'd rather keep buying games for my Wii and PS3.

    And this is why I say you're stupid kids who got sucked into the hype train. Take a close look at the games. Are they better in HD? Absolutely not. You're lying if you disagree. It does nothing for gaming but stretch the image and blur edges. I've seen what the games look like on HD sets and I decided to keep my SD. Again I never watch movies or sports so that pretty much removes any use HD could offer.

    Sure you'll rant further because I'm insulting your precious purchase and the money you wasted, but the reality is you wish you weren't fooled like the others. HD is a gimmick and current consoles look perfect in their usual SD format.

    @DPSx7

    you're such an idiot. do you even have an HD tv?
    Look at Killzone 2 and Gears 2 and then compare that to Mario Galaxy, Conduit, and Metroid Prime 3...then talk to us about there not being an difference.

    let me guess, you think DVD looks better than BluRay

    Just give up you moron. You probably don't even have an HDTV and you're just talking out of your arse

    @DPSx7
    If what you say is true, then your pc running at (ex) 1600x1200 is the same as it running at 800x600. for a minute just switch your resolution to 800x600 for a minute, then tell me you think hd is overrated compared to sd. If you still cannot see why HD is better, then you are an idiot and do not deserve HD, and are probably too stupid to use anything but my little pny (wii)
    And yes, I own ps3 and Wii, and planning on getting an XB360 when I can afford it. Ps3 and wii are both hooked up to a tv running at 1080p (except the wii)

    Only the delusional think HD isn't overrated. Compare the screens of most games and you'll see HD is worse in more cases. Do note that I own 30 consoles and the only one that even supports it (and doesn't require it) is PS3. So why blow $1000 on a set that's not going to improve anything? My current TV works fine and the only things HD might help in is sports and movies - neither of which I watch.

    Impressive. It looks exactly like an XBLA game, which is good enough for me.

    Frankly I think something about that video actually looks worst. Like, sure it doesn't have the somewhat jagged edges, but it just seems to have lost it's luster.

    I still think Mario Galaxy is one of the best looking games out there. It may not be the top tech-game, but it's art design is simply breathtaking. It's amazing what a solid 60 fps framerate can do for your game, too. *cough*fableandfallout*Cough*

    I reslly could careless about HD in gaming. The only time when HD should matter is when I`m watching tv while real people are on not lines of code or an animated picture. RRRREEAAALLL PEOPLE
