Microsoft Offering Silverlight Support For Xbox Live AdvertisingMicrosoft's own Major Nelson has done his best to settle the masses after the company announced that it would be bringing Silverlight (Microsoft's version of Flash) to the Xbox 360 to be used for advertisements. As always, the gamers were not happy and were quick to yell about having to view ads on a paid service.

Many users believed that this meant that more ads would be coming to the dashboard. Not so:

"One of our core principles is to enhance, not interfere with the gaming experience, and we work directly with our partners to only deliver experiences that are relevant to the LIVE community. Silverlight will help make those ads a more organic part of the dashboard, like we’ve done with some of the NXE slots in the past."

As Jake Gaskill noted yesterday, Silverlight is being added so advertisers can deliver more media rich ads along with HD video.

Personally, I'm not that bothered by the ads on the Xbox 360 Dashboard. I just skip past them and load up my game. What about you?
