Do you have an iPhone? Are you as obsessed with it as I am? Don't you think that the AI in the Peggle challenge mode cheats?!?!?!
Moving on, this week Adam takes a moment to discuss the gaming possibilities offered by Apple's iPhone. Do you buy fully-functional games for the iPhone? Or do you follow in Adam's footsteps and read the paper or do some crossword puzzles on your iPhone in your spare time? Either way, it's a subject begging for a debate, so check out this week's Soapbox and let us know what you think.

One game I would only get on an IPhone... Vending Machine Champ.

Why does it have to be a difference between the iPhone or a console/handheld. I don't get it. They are both computers happen to have games that you can play on them. Yes the iPhone has a billion fart apps but doesn't the ds also have many game come out on it that suck just as much and cost 30x the price. I don't think gaming/interactive entertainment should have to fit under a predetermined catagory (handheld/console/pc/wii/ps3/e tc) for us as gamers to aknowledge that the game is fantastic or terrible. I don't really want to see xplay review every app that comes out. But actually reviewing the cream of the crop of iPhone gaming would be fantastic. I can't say much for quite a few games on the iPhone that I've bought but there are games there that are better than anything I've ever played on a handheld before... Take a look at "real racing" (excellent) or "space invaders infinity gene", "blimp", "F.A.S.T" or "fieldrunners". Why shouldn't a great game validate anything that it plays on as a gaming platform?

Thank you, Raurik. =)

@ everyone that's asked what the game is behind The Sess, it's Dishwasher. And it's awesome. Hey, you, why haven't you bought it yet? :P
It's 2 player co-op too~

It's hard for me to fight the idea of an iPhone being a gaming console when I am almost always playing it. Since I got the iphone my DS has kind of sat untouched in a corner and I think the real reason is the iphone limits itself so much that it has to entertain some new ideas in order to make a competent game. When I say "limit" I am referring to the lack of D-pad and buttons. My personal favorite games are the 3rd Person Shooters by Gameloft. I'm afraid I'm going to have to IMO this, but in my opinion BIA Hour of Heroes is way more acceptable as a shooter than the 3rd party shooters for the DS. On top of that the iphone's size makes the DS and PSP look like Game Gear sized bricks.
Why would the casual gamer bother getting a DS when they can get their Cooking Mama fix on their ipod? Because whether it's a generation 1 or 2 or 3 most people have one. A lot of games allow you to play your ipod's music, several offer online versus or scoreboards, and let's not forget that the ipod can put out some pretty pretty graphics (Firemint's Real Racing).
Now I KNOW I am sitting here pulling gems out of a dung heap, but that's where a console's potential lies. Early gems poking out of a pile of Popcap games(dung heap). So I ask you. Please go grab a demo of Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes, grab Firemint's Real Racing, and hopefully you'll see something more than a mobile game to pass the time.
Consequentially, you should also buy iSR (or Synth Racing) as it's insanely addictive and the update coming soon will involve new tracks, ships, and game modes. Think SNES Star Fox's dodging sections only you're gaining 2kph every second with speedups to hit and crazy color changing madness. Oh, and it's .99 cents.

Well said and well put, and THANK YOU, I am finally able to watch SS on google chrome. Thank you guys so much, and everything is working fine...and the quality of the chat has gone up one hundred percent, thank you gentlemen who run the G4 site.
On to your video. It's something that I've noticed alot about the press/media. They take things and they turn it all upside down. The Mass Effect sex scene is one of the greatest examples. My cousin is all of eleven years old. That boy knows how to grab a remote and flip through the TV channels, and we have HBO, he can flip to HBO when True Blood comes on, and watch some sex scene, without even knowing. Now, the same thing with Mass Effect, he can some how(by miracle) be able to interact with Kaiden, Ashley, or Tiara, and get them into bed.
Now, knowing that my little cousin can do both these things, I password lock all the movie channels and generally password lock Spike TV(I love spike, but it ain't for him). I also lock my Xbox, and put my M rated games up. Funny how that works? The media usually looks for one hiccup to turn the whole gaming world on it's ear. It's a double standard like the GTA IV thing when it was first coming out. The violence against police officers and oh it'll influence the kids...etc.
I turned the TV on to SciFi(or SyFy now) and I saw a woman get her neck caught in a bungee cord, that was wrapped around a ceiling fan, and then she was strung up from it, and had her torso separated by a guy with a freaking ax. Also, I turned the TV to spike and I saw a movie wear a guy shot a few cops in the head....
Double standard much?

JFK Reloaded was one of my most favorite games of all time. I learned more in that game about the assassination then I did when I went to his museum in Dallas...and I was inspired to go look up and read about the assassination. (Granted it was mostly so I could do better at getting 100%)

The game action game in the background looks fantastic. What is it?

I NEVER "game on the go". I rarely have long commutes and when I do I'm either driving or if someone else is driving I never trust them enough so I always pay attention to the raod so I can holler out "Hey, watch that damn car coming at us!". Also, I refuse to buy a cell phone. I just have no use for one. I play handheld games, I have a PSP and DS, but I always play 'em sitting in a chair at home.

thanks JTHMROCKS
gonna be buying that game when it comes out fo' sho'

That's the one thing I want from Apple on a new iPhone is like 6-9 buttons and a D-pad(either touch sensitive with a raised surface, OR an actual button). If they just added those buttons and the D-Pad, then I would probably buy more games. I subscribe to the "just cause you can doesn't mean you should" concept. We CAN make a game that only uses accelerometer and touch-screen controls, but that doesn't mean ALL of them should only use that.

@buzzerker74 - im sorry, were u talking about the Wii or the iPhone?

Itz just like him
Buzzerker74
who cares? its a bunch of half ass games on a PHONE, nothin to get all tight in the pants about.

I was nerd raging at whoever was playing Hexic. How could you be so bad and miss the match staring you in the face? Middle of the screen, slightly right, move the top 3 to form a match. Then it would be out of matches and refill. Rargh!

jdevlin24t
It's the Dishwasher:Dead Samurai.

@happymeowmeow I'm with you, I was completely distracted the whole soapbox by that awesome game going on behind Sessler. Does anybody know what the deal is with that game?
happymeowmeow
So what is the word of mouth on good iphone games? Are there any great ones yet that are unique to the system?
Distracted again by game behind talking head. Prodigious blood soaking makes me want to play. Its one of the Xboxlive games right, ghost of the mummies samurai or something.
Less is more in games, keep saying it cause it's true. Did Xplay review Retro Game Challenge when it came out...talk about less being more. Was just playing it and totally sucked in.
