In a post on the Capcom Unity forums Christian Svensson, Capcom VP of strategic planning & business development, discussed the challenge with giving the HD Remix treatment to Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.
An HD Remix on SF3 would be a challenge in and of itself given the number of frames of animation and effects that would have to be redone, especially in light of what we learned on SSF2THDR. As such, the very nature of the project you're suggesting is somewhat unlikely.
Personally, I would take a port. SF3 is a great fighting game that could find a whole new audience now that Street Fighter IV is out. I don't need an HD Remix for SF3. It still looks great. I'm also going to assume that a re-release of SF3 with multiplayer will happen, given Capcom's strategy for re-releasing its old 2D fighters.
Not familiar with 3rd Strike? It's the game that the infamous Daigo perfect parry comes from:
Svensson also confirms that, if a re-release were to happen, it would be downloadable and not a retail release.

Are you sure you mean "superfluous." i know it looks great already but in HD would'nt be more than needed in my opinion. i think it would be great.
P.S. I would Love the online gameplay, with no ego in my words i can say my skills are nothing short of God-like.

If you have a TV over 37 inches, you'll see how bad the 2D drawings really are. I'm definitely going to wait for a HD Remixed version.

"...the infamous Daigo perfect parry..." would be misuse of the word 'infamous.'

SFIII doesn't need a HD remake the game looks fine. Also that tecing was TIGHT!

With what they're doing for MvC2, I'd be perfectly content to just have 3rd Strike with some upscaling and the same online setup that's driving both MvC2 and SSF2HDR.

Every time I see that ultimate parry I get goosebumps, simply amazing.

3rd Strike would be friggin awesome to own... again. If they do release this for download, it will be the third time I by the game. I'm such an SF whore.

Capcom just do the HD remix!! we can wait with these great fighters coming out in 2009!!!

If you watch the whole match, it's really intense.
Also, I think most people wouldn't really mind not having HD graphics, as long as they add online play- I certainly don't.

I have SS2THDR, IV, and will get MvsC2...I think i'm good on fighters for a while.

Why are none of the illest and original characters from SF3 in SF4? That worthless punk DAN is still in the series? WTF Capcom?? Oh well, RIP SEAN (Another Ken / Ryu Clone)

I've watched the comeback at least 100 times, and each time im in awe.
I would also take a port, just so we could play online. I could really care less about the sprites.
gtrogers
Just release it via digital download with upscaling and widescreen. Don't even bother redrawing the sprites. BAM. Easy $$$$

Remember it took longer for backbone to do the HD remix than it took capcom to make SF4. I think a port would be good enough for everyone involved.

Not buying the same games over and over. I would much rather see a street fighter 4 style Darkstalkers, or a mature street fighter come out of Capcom.
bigmonstefan
I think the look of the game looks just fine as is. HD would be superfluous.
