Amidst the excitement for Croteam announcing Serious Sam HD for Xbox Live Arcade and PC last week, there was a group of disgruntled gamers: PlayStation 3 owners. The platform wasn't mentioned as a destination for the remake, but why? I asked Croteam for an explanation to pass onto TheFeed readers, and I received a response from Croteam CEO Roman Ribaric, who laid out his studio's reasons -- and what you can do about it.
"We did plan for PSN at the start of Serious Sam HD development," said Ribaric.
"[We] couldn't get additional financing to support [the] extra development time needed," he continued. "It was either to do PSN by the same date or forget about it. There was also a thought to find another team to do it, but nobody was either willing (a.k.a. not enough time/money/interest) or realistically being able (or crazy enough) to do it in such short period."
When Croteam realized it couldn't produce Serious Sam HD for PS3 at the same time at the other platforms, it discussed the possibility of releasing Serious Sam HD on Sony's console at a later day. But that's where Croteam hit another unexpected snag, an issue you guys could help Ribaric resolve.
"We [have considered] doing PSN after we finish PC and XBLA," he said. "However, we keep hearing over and over from publishers, investors, marketing and other suits that players from one console, in this case PSN, wouldn't want to get it later, let's say eight months and seven days after, if it's released sooner on the other console, here that would be XBLA. I would normally say that's a lot of bull, but I will refrain here from my comment. What do your readers think?"
That's where you guys come in. If Croteam was to consider pushing resources into porting Serious Sam HD, but acknowledged it couldn't deliver the game until well after the other versions were on the market, would there still be an interest from gamers? The only one who can really help answer that question is you.
"It would feel perfect to have it on PSN as well," he said. "However, we are a garage team of 20 people, although with a larger garage now, working on Serious Sam HD for PC and XBLA platforms. Along that, we are developing Serious Sam 3 and Serious Engine 3 tech for both platforms. Now, I know we are good, but we are not that good to add PSN and finish at the same time. Just kidding, we are that good, but we are not supermen."
Tell Ribaric what you think. I'll be pointing him towards the comments. He'll be reading.

im sure glad the xboys are getting xbl games and dl content, cause they sure arent getting more than one good exclusive not called halo in the next 2 years!!!

Where is "oldpete" or "oldeddie" or oldsomename who shot has mouth off a while back saying "anyone who thinks MS isn't paying for exclusives is a fool".
I'll say it again. Adults will understand that developers need to feed their families and put their kids through school. A developers time and money can drive a product to be exclusive or timed exclusive as easily as MS cheques.

I would prefer a game on the PSN - however if it was coming out on one before the other and it was more than say a week - I would buy the XBL version because I wouldn't want to wait and I have both consoles.

I'd definitely be up for getting Serious Sam even some time after release. What I'd suggest is make it stand out by doing something different with it and Home, like allowing people to observe games in play live in Home, somewhat like the Killzone 2 online replay. Hell if someone gives me the kit I'd do it!

You know what I don't care any more. Whatever... Oky I'm freaking lieing my @ss off !! I want that game on psn!!! I demand you pay tribute to the great PSN...I hope that works...If not I do apologize but I would love to have this game or maybe a month later where all the known bugs are fix.!! Hahaha xbotx can play the glitchy game first....We can play a more refine game :) works for me!!!
snookgum123
I play serious sam on pc and I absolutely love it. I rather get it from my psn than for the pc. Being that turning on my sony is faster than my pc :) I really think you guys should put this on PSN just to be fair :)...!!!

Shut up, fanboys. Nobody likes you.
Anyway, I hope it gets released for the PS3. Nobody should miss out on this. Serious Sam is awesome, and the more people that play it, the better.
klyonawesome
Here's the problem. If you released all three at the same time you have a better chance of getting more sales from 3 platforms. Now if you release it and the XBLA and PC reviews suck, then even if you offer more content of PSN why would people spend money on a game that sucks. I have never played a Serious Sam game so i'm not saying it sucks. Just saying this is how it works. If the critics and gamers say the game is good and well worth the purchase i say make if for PSN and rake in more sales. If they all say the game sucks...don't bother.

I would buy it later. it's not like this is the only game i'm waiting for.
snookgum123
i would get it on the pc rather than to wait and get it on the psn. Even if they put exclusive map content or whatever its too late because I already got it for the pc.

More playing b3hind for the Sony fanboys. Its really quite sad :(
spicypooptastic
Wait someone answer my question: Why isn't that punisher game comming to the 360, everyone knows you make more money putting things on the 360. Unless its some gay Japanese RPG were some dude who looks like a girl holding a 12 long outrageous sword, and does weird spin moves that produce a rainbow of colors, followed by 10 min of boring dialog.
l33t360
what he really wants to know is: do you want to play b3hind?
btonkinson
Honestly, I think the game would get lost in the mix. The people who really want it would get it on XBLA or PC.
ProxyVirus
UH OH HERE THEY COME!!!!
deathsdelivery
If its fun, I'm there, plus I would have The Punisher No Mercy to hold me over, and that game looks really great for $10.00(online co-op, and death match, plus single player campaign).
down311
I can't wait for this on either, I was pissed when they never BC updated it for the 360. One of the most fun games ever.
BloodKnight86
I can wait. Patince is a virtue.
mathiasreese
I think if it was offered later on PSN it still could succeed, IF there is some sort of exclusive content promised that will make it worth the wait.
