Amidst the excitement for Croteam announcing Serious Sam HD for Xbox Live Arcade and PC last week, there was a group of disgruntled gamers: PlayStation 3 owners. The platform wasn't mentioned as a destination for the remake, but why? I asked Croteam for an explanation to pass onto TheFeed readers, and I received a response from Croteam CEO Roman Ribaric, who laid out his studio's reasons -- and what you can do about it.
"We did plan for PSN at the start of Serious Sam HD development," said Ribaric.
"[We] couldn't get additional financing to support [the] extra development time needed," he continued. "It was either to do PSN by the same date or forget about it. There was also a thought to find another team to do it, but nobody was either willing (a.k.a. not enough time/money/interest) or realistically being able (or crazy enough) to do it in such short period."
When Croteam realized it couldn't produce Serious Sam HD for PS3 at the same time at the other platforms, it discussed the possibility of releasing Serious Sam HD on Sony's console at a later day. But that's where Croteam hit another unexpected snag, an issue you guys could help Ribaric resolve.
"We [have considered] doing PSN after we finish PC and XBLA," he said. "However, we keep hearing over and over from publishers, investors, marketing and other suits that players from one console, in this case PSN, wouldn't want to get it later, let's say eight months and seven days after, if it's released sooner on the other console, here that would be XBLA. I would normally say that's a lot of bull, but I will refrain here from my comment. What do your readers think?"
That's where you guys come in. If Croteam was to consider pushing resources into porting Serious Sam HD, but acknowledged it couldn't deliver the game until well after the other versions were on the market, would there still be an interest from gamers? The only one who can really help answer that question is you.
"It would feel perfect to have it on PSN as well," he said. "However, we are a garage team of 20 people, although with a larger garage now, working on Serious Sam HD for PC and XBLA platforms. Along that, we are developing Serious Sam 3 and Serious Engine 3 tech for both platforms. Now, I know we are good, but we are not that good to add PSN and finish at the same time. Just kidding, we are that good, but we are not supermen."
Tell Ribaric what you think. I'll be pointing him towards the comments. He'll be reading.

Im not sure just getting comments from this community will do your survey justice. You should post this question on the playstation blog.

I would definitely get this if it came out on the PSN, never played a serious sam game before but there's no doubt id buy this one to try the series out.

Would I buy Serious Sam on the Playstation 3? Maybe. Honestly, I'd rather purchase a native x86 or x86-64 Linux client first over a PowerPC Linux Client. Those who recognize this user-name probably have read through one or more of my rants on why keyboard and mouse are better for FPS's. Granted, since all PS3's sold have at least two USB ports I think it would be possible for Serious Sam HD PS3 to support keyboard and mouse input.
Now, having said that part... my wallet would be even more inclined to spend money on Serious Sam again if there was a Wii release. Metroid Prime and Conduit have shown that the Wii's nunchuck and Wiimote make for one of the most intuitive FPS control systems available. While it's unlikely that the art-assets for Serious Sam HD would fit onto the Wii platform, the original assets should fit fine.

I own all systems. And I will download this on whatever system It drops on first. That means it's going to be the 360, and I wouldn't download it again on the PS3. Having said that, It would be smart to also develop it for the PS3. But I think it would also be smart to ad some bonuses, like some have already stated. I don't know if this would be difficult, but Maybe an extra Gun or two, or the ability to unlock some stuff for Serious Sam 3. Don't deprive the PS3 owners of this awesome game. Serious Sam takes the PS3 very, very Seriously.

signed up for an account just to say this: I would absolutely LOVE serious sam HD on the PS3!! I tried using my old copy the other day, but openGL and windows 7 got off to a rocky start, and even after *most* openGL games have been made to work, serious sam is one of the few that suffers with a terrible framerate (on a high crysis capable rig, no less)and numerous graphical problems
its a shame, but if it got added to the PS3 with updated graphics, I would be ecstatic; it means I would be able to play again, and introduce some of my friends who were never big PC gamers
PLEASE make this!

It seems like the publishers are assuming that every potential customer has at least 2 of these three platforms. The only system I have capable of playing Serious Sam HD is a PS3. So if I need to wait eight months and seven days I will. Not only that but I can guarantee at least 2 sales. My brother and I would definitely buy this on PSN.

@dpsk7
thier you xbots go again with all the numbers and sales figures and crap just stop and also the 360 was out a year before the ps3 so naturaly the 360 would of sold more hard ware sold and what goes with more hardware being sold means more games will also be sold so thats all those numbers really mean
CitizenErased115
Yeah I'd be more than happy to get this on PSN. My second 360 which was a replacement of the first one RRoD a while back. I sold my RRoD 360 and 30+ games. So I'm done with the 360 I'm not even going to be stubborn and continue supporting Microsoft's platform which rendered some of my 360 games unplayable. Couldn't be happier with my launch PS3 I've never had any problems with it.
Please have Trophy Support video record and the YouTube upload feature. Thanks!'
I'd also advise talking with the Sony folks at the Playstation Blog when you make your announcement if you do intend to release it on the PSN. I am more than sure you'll get exposure and a lot more assurance.

Are you serious? I'd kill someone just to get this game on PSN. I still play Second Encounter and I can't get enough of SS. Please bring it to PSN ASAP, it's a Day 1 buy for me =)

"There are NO games on 360 that sell or get rated well that won't also release on a real console". "Fact is there are only 2 actual consoles this gen and 360 is the joke in last place."
He's a big dumb animal isn't he folks?
Last I checked the 360 was still outselling the PS3 in hardware and software and is still around 8 million consoles ahead of the PS3 but I guess in Sackboy land everything is reversed. PS3 fanboys sure have such vivid imaginations!
DPsx72
Typo above, sorry. I edited it wrong. Should read *does not*, not the double negative.
DPsx72
Commercial success doesn't not mean the games are good. Movie-related games sell well but are traditionally bad, so your argument fails. There are NO games on 360 that sell or get rated well that won't also release on a real console. Fact is there are only 2 actual consoles this gen and 360 is the joke in last place. Even PC ranks above 360. Just gotta learn to live with the truth you fankids.

@ Thundercracker
Forgot Shadow Complex. Oh there is more still being announced. Dreamkiller comes out this fall and looks awesome. And next year Halo Reach, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, plus no telling how many titles will come out w/ Natal. Trust me we got plenty this year and next. BTW tell me what you have left this year? You have what 3 so-called "AAA titles" this year that will fail to cause any doomsday. Killzone 2, Infamous, and Uncharted 2. Everything else you PS3 fanboys screamed was coming out this year doesn't come out until around Spring or late 2010. I guess your stuck playing a lot of Fat Princess.
Redd75
I agree with kyle2dotcom. If you guys wait and then do PSN version, you better hope the reviews for the game on the other two platforms are good.
Thundercracker
yeah but forza sucks...but even if i give you forza, whats that? 5 games? pffft
billyving
If the PSN version has 4 player co-op online like the XBLA version, 3 games sold for sure here. If not I would still like to see this game on the PSN so I could purchase it. I have xbox 360 but would only buy game if it was on PSN.
gtrogers
I also want to add that I love seeing a closer, more direct connection between the developers and their customers. Much respect to Mr. Ribaric for asking for the customer's opinion.

I have played and enjoyed Serious Sam before. Very fun, tight games. That said, I probably wouldn't purchase this title unless it were available very cheaply. With digital distribution becoming commonplace, I just don't like spending more than $20 for new games. Remakes should be $10 or less. The days of spending $50-$60 are over for me, personally.
blakseed
I could get it on Live, but I'll wait. Tell Mr. Ribaric If they port it to PSN, they can count on my support. Haven't played Serious Sam since the early PS2 days.
