Square Enix Counting Down

Final Fantasy makers Square Enix has launched a site for a new game, but rather than telling us what the new game is or why we should care, the site features a hand-drawn, bucolic scene, a number "4," an old-school chiptunes song and, most shockingly of all, a countdown clock!

So Square is essentially revealing the fact that it plans to reveal something in around nine days. Thanks, Square.

I asked X-Play's host Adam Sessler what he thought the sight could portend, and he said, "I hope Square is announcing a sequel to The Bouncer." Somehow, I doubt that's going to happen...

MMO Report  producer Patrick Roche-Sowa and I put our heads together and determined that, to the best of our knowledge, Square doesn't have a series with three games in it, so we think the old-school video game music and the number four refer to Final Fantasy IV. The big announcement could be that FF IV is going to be ported to some other system. But, who knows? One thing is for sure, though: I really hate countdown clocks.

What do you think Square Enix is up to with this one? Any thoughts on what game might be announced when the announcement clock winds down?
