The one game that took everyone by surprise at E3 2009 was a little Nintendo DS title called Scribblenauts. This little nugget of genius stood head and shoulders above an astounding amount of fantastic video games, so you know that there has to be something very special about this incredibly simple and yet infinitely complex game.

Such is the topic of this week's Soapbox. Adam talks about how he not only can't wait to play the game, but how he thinks  Scribblenauts stands as an example of how amazing games have gotten in recent years. Are you as excited for this game as The Sess? Hell, I might buy a DS just so I can play it. Enjoy.

I thought that the game was just a stupid kid game at first until I actually saw how cool and creative it is. I guess it shows that you don't need a master chief in a game to make it good.
P.S. I don't know if you read all of these but i'm reading some of those books you recommended on your book club episode and i'm liking them so far so thanks!

What was the game playing directly behind Adam? Not MVC2.

as far as consistency in game quality the DS is one of the best. I own one of the "original" blue DSs from years back and I am very happy to see great innovative games still being made for it

@CDAT1AD If you don't like it don't watch it. but no you type a bunch of crap you think people give a crap about.

@psyclone19 No one likes the guy who types one comment just to be an ass.

But as for what i think of scribblenauts, I think it looks fun I'll most likely get it.

I don't own a DS, but I still think the game looks cool. I'd be interested to try it and test it's limitations. Also, completely off topic, and this is my first post ever. I don't even know if you actually have time to read all these comments Mr. Sessler (I don't know you, so I don't think we are on a first name basis), nor would you want to with all of these fools on here. But how does one apply for a career at the G4 studios. I can't think of anything cooler than to take your job when you grow old and can no longer make the daily commute to your current workplace. HAHA. But seriously is there some way to apply for an internship or something, just curious.

i'm only posting this here because i know you read your comments but adam, take a look at your review page. i mean this one: http://g4tv.com/games/reviews/

is there any unbiased reason you can give why all multiplatform games are listed with the 360 box? and you WONDER why you gain all the ps3fanboy ire... seriously?

Maybe the skeptics need some clarification: the game has an item library that exceeds 10,000 possible objects. Think about the possibilities, then multiply those by about several thousand. I mean, I read a preview where a guy conjured a time machine, went to the past, grabbed a dinosaur, and then rode on it, using to it to stomp on a bunch of zombie robots. There is no limit to the number of ways to solve a problem.

    @psyclone19

Just because there's no blood and people cursing doesn't mean this game won't be good, dumbass.

Remove the space between "ad" and "am" in that address up above... and now I depart.

P.S. This Soapbox's picture amused me, so I was inspired to add onto it a little: http://i471.photobucket.com/al bums/rr74/gillhands/scribblead am.jpg?t=1246046199

Hey Sessler, they say if you speak really loud and robot-like, people will think you aren't reading everything off of a teleprompter. Kinda like how speaking really loud english will make people understand english better, even though they don't understand english.

I too hope Scribblenauts does great. It seems like one of those rare games that both the core and casual gamers could get on board with. Even with the rave reception its been getting lately, I think people underrate Scribblenauts; not in its potential as a game, but its potential as a product, which may be even greater (if possible). Get it in the public's eye and I could see it captivating anybody who's literate, and make the illiterate doubly envious.

As for the Scribblenaut's interest soaring in the gaming community, I think The Sess is dead on, we crave surprises from unexpected outlets. Scribblenauts is showing that people are clamoring for really bold, new, fresh games, like Flower, the game playing in the background of the Soapbox. We're still going to be wowed by the blockbuster graphics of the PS3/360, but I think we find it pleasing when more cerebral yet understated games like Scribblenauts push the boundaries of game design today.

G4 you need to give us the ability to talk and email individual posters. Some of these guys are idiots as in the case of CDAT1AD.

@CDAT1AD you are only suitable as meat by product. Adam's SoapBox means Adam's soapbox, Not Adam's Soapbox-under the scrutiny-pending approval- of some ignorant joe.

Wheather you like it or not, politics and video games are a vast ground most frequently avoided, to the disservice of all gamers... Franky I don't care what side Adam/G4 take, I am just happy they took one. Otherwise, we will continue getting blind-sided by laws and politicians every time they decide to ablige a special intrest group. At least this way the issues have exposure and YOU decide what it is that needs to be done.

Once again Great Job Adam, and hope you restore the original video on this page.

    ..X..

PS, Major STFU Mofo @CDAT1AD. I could do this 10 times a day till eternity, and it will still not be enough. ..X..
