ZeniMax Logo Sit down for this news: ZeniMax Media, the company that owns Bethesda Softworks, has purchased id Software. That means that the people who made Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein are teaming up with the people who made Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, to create what will perhaps be the greatest game company of all time.

Bethesda will publish id Software titles, other than upcoming releases previously committed to other publishers. id Software will continue to operate as a studio under its founder John Carmack. According to ZeniMax, no changes will be made in the operations of id Software in the development of its games, also, the principals at id are all sticking around.

In a statement, Robert Altman, the founder, Chairman & CEO of ZeniMax Media said, “We, along with many others, consider id Software to be among the finest game studios in the world, with extraordinary design, artistic and technical capabilities. They have demonstrated, repeatedly, that rare ability to create franchise properties that are critical and commercial successes. Our intention is to make sure id Software will continue to do what they do best – make AAA games. Our role will be to provide publisher support through Bethesda Softworks and give id Software the resources it needs to grow and expand.”

As for what's in the works: id is developing PC, Mac, PS3 and 360 first-person shooter Rage, slated for release in 2010, although it looks like that game will still be published by Electronic Arts.

TheFeed team will be in contact with our connections at ZeniMax to get you updates soon.

Hat's off to Zenimax! id now has a new lease on life. Maybe this'll get us a Quake 5 or Doom 4 a little sooner.

Well this could actually help id Software in the long run. I mean there are going multiplatform now and with the support of a multiplatform publisher they can have more potential in that department. Bethesda's games have in depth gameplay and story and since Zenimax owns both companies then id and Betesda can share some ideas and technology to help make their games that much better and with the eceomomy still in the recovery process, being a subsidary of a larger company isn't that bad of an idea.

good because zenimax will bring the baddest new ip RAGE to the PS3, which will be able 2 handle the 15gb game thanks 2 blu ray! Thank goodness id left their publisher activision for EA , since the idiots at ACTIVISION are threatening to stop bringing games to sony platforms. which is dumb because the only difference between 360 & PS3 is 8 million units, which suprises me since PS3 is 200 more then 360 arcade. I dont see where PS3 is doing bad. imagine where they will b with 100 price cut!!!! PS3 23 million & cathing up 2 360 's million !!!!!!!!

THIS IS TERRIBLE BESHESDA MAKES TERRIBLE GAMES! Oblivion and Fall out were boring games that consisted of talking to lame people and walking and walking and boring combat.

If Beshesda trys and touch/ruin doom I will. . . well I can't do anything but I'll be pissed.

    RIP ID
