Brutal Legend E3 2009 Game Play Programmer Interview »

Double Fine's Brutal Legend was a huge hit with the G4tv.com and X-Play crews. Quite a few guys and gals in the office are longtime Double Fine fans. So when gameplay programmer Anna Kipnis (certainly the sexiest gameplay programmer I've ever encountered) spoke about the similarities between Psychonauts (Double Fine's last game) and Brutal Legend, the gang was all ears. Kipnis, who worked on both games, said:

"Psychonauts had little things you could collect and exploration that you could do, but in Brutal Legend, you can actually do side missions, which are full blown missions. In addition to that, there is narrative in those missions. So there are similarities with Psychonauts, where you explore to find out more story elements, but there's more gameplay [in Brutal Legend] then there was in Psychonauts."

In the full interview, Anna gives a general overview of Brutal Legend and mentions something she's not really supposed to talk about. I'd tell you what it was, but every time I watch the interview, I'm mesmerized by her baby browns. Be sure to check out the entire interview in wondrous HD.

Are there any Psychonauts fans reading TheFeed? What aspects of that game are you hoping to see in Brutal Legend?

@Emuticus Platforming games suck? I guess the millions of people that bought Mario, Ratchet, Jak, Sly Cooper, etc. all like sucky games.

Psychonauts had great characters, good voice acting, twisted and original writing. But it was a "collect all kinds of junk" platform jumping game. Platform games suck. You can't put lipstick on a pig. So the only aspect of Psychonauts I am hoping NOT to see in BL is platforming.

Is it possible that in Brutal Legend you can enter into someone else's mind through a little door you carry around with you to observe their obsessions with raw meat or painting or Napoleon?
