Backtracking executives, ahoy! Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was likely thwacked over the head with a stick the moment he left the stage in Chicago last week, where his comments implied a "new Xbox" was coming sometime next year, compounding rumors circulating the 'net recently. Ballmer claims to IGN UK, however, that it was all a misunderstanding.
"I confused the issue with my poorly chosen words," he said. "There is no news in my comments. Things are as reported after E3. Sorry."
Such a response is expected. Ballmer and Microsoft weren't looking to make any announcements last week, but it doesn't mean there wasn't truth within Ballmer's statements. It's looking increasingly likely Microsoft will re-brand Xbox 360 with a relaunch of sorts next year. New hardware? Probably not. New, Natal-focused bundle with a massive marketing campaign to court Wii owners? Hmm.

I'm "and imbecile"?
Why? Because I'm exposing the fallibility of your arguments? Is there something wrong, Xbot?
Keep your fanboy comments coming. The more you post, the more stupid you sound.

Who wants a Slim?! You've got a PS3. Keep that one! The original PS3 will be proven to be better.
Man, I can't believe someone started a flamewar already. Well, I suppose it was bound to happen anyway, right?
@MartyMcFly84
I know. Who would want to buy a piece of hardware that's actually reliable?
Keep your fanboy comments to yourself! No one cares about your never-ending loyalty to all things Microsoft.

I'd say that the scenario is pretty likely. They'll try to get more Wii owners on board but most others won't be that interested, especially if they have an Xbox already. They'll probably market it as something fun for the family (Natal) and the hardcore gamer, but it'll probably end up being the core gamer that actually uses the thing.
Thundercracker
so why would anyone buy an xbox if a new one is coming out next year? I know i wouldnt
IcemanMX
Apology accepted. Now get back to work fixing the damn hardware.

that's good he apologized because xbox owners are confused enough as it is.
Redd75
Still waiting on someone from MS to 'apologize' for a knowingly-rushed and faulty piece of hardware.
blindsideofthesun
Yeah...no. It's probably going to stripped down (like the PSPgo) to appeal to the other type of gamer who is wanting a streamlined Natal experience. You know, to cater to the otherwise non-gaming crowd that the Wii is hogging. Like it or not, they are pumping some major $$$ into the industry. More $$$ means better future for gaming all around.
Infamous_Bizarro
