I love you, Stephen Colbert. My biggest regret from my year-long tenure at MTV News is never taking advantage of the ability to be a VIP at a taping of The Colbert Report. But at least our love affair can live on through your daily television show, which had me cracking up last night; Colbert decided to take aim at Microsoft. Colbert put Project Natal in his sights and sniped away. Can't wait for that new Xbox!

First off, there's no reason you still can't make those games in a Holodeck environment.
Secondly, there won't be any further advancements once the Holodeck is achieved. Once porn games make their way onto it, humanity is doomed.

didn't microsoft help design the internet for the dreamcast because my friend's dreamcast had an MS sticker on it for the internet.

Who says a holodeck is the holy grail of gaming? Just because it's your opinion that being IN the game is the best possible thing doesn't mean it goes the same for everyone. ;)
Many games are designed to be played for pure fun - with unrealistic objectives in an unrealistic envorinment. A "holodeck" thrives on the concept of realism and interaction. Some games, like chess or checkers as classic examples, are better suited as just plain old games. There are many video game examples of this too, that just wouldn't be fun in a holodeck. Plus, like with motion control, not everyone wants to move. Or talk. Some people just want to relax. Some people want an RTS like "overhead" 2D mode - no 3D interaction - for strategy.
A holodeck would be cool for simulations, and some games, sure, but there's many people and many games that wouldn't sit well in a holodeck.

That is the ultimate Holy Grail of gaming. Once there's a realistic Holodeck-like experience, gaming will have reached it summit.

i have something for the fail that seems to be natal... why are the kids hands not scanned into the skateboard? hmm. Plus i just want to play halo with a controller. i can play halo without a controller right now. imagination is gay.

Codered's arguments are lame.
I don't play video games because I want to f!@#$$ paint. I play video games because I can't go and slay dragons, wield a sword that will save a distressed princess and kingdom, burn an opponent to a crisp who's ass I just kick by pulling him in with my harpoon, or pop off the heads of Locust, a terrorist, or aftermath mutants. Gaming should fulfill the things we can't do in our sick minds and lives. I don't play games to do things like going to the grocery store to buy cornrolls or toilet paper. The motion tech is great, but now it's just getting ridiculous.
Flame wars aside, has anyone considered that all this motion technology will bring a new age of gaming to Virtual Reality, i.e. "Holodeck" technology?

I hope this motion sensing thing doesnt catch on...wether ur an xbot or a ps3hor(or watevr their called), i think its embarassing that 2 obviously more powerful consoles are bein swayed by a soccer moms afternoon workout machine...

dude, if you aren't nintendo, you aren't revolutionary. You're just trying to make the most popular system for money. Whatever's selling you're going to try to make your own version of it. I'd like to see microsoft or sony come up with a completely new idea.

Actually, the 360 has many other titles than just halo and gears, theirs Mass Effect, Fable, Lost Odyssey, Lost Planet(kinda), Star Ocean 4, Left 4 Dead, Crackdown, and Condemned (1).
