If Activision Drops PS3 Support, Here's What PS3 Owners Can't Play

Activision is threatening to drop support for PlayStation 3 (and PSP, but let's focus on the big target here) if Sony doesn't drop the price of their hardware soon. As the world's largest third-party publisher, Activision wields power. If Activision made good on their threats, what would be the impact?

I combed through the company's upcoming release calendar for the rest of 2009 and produced a list of games PlayStation 3 owners wouldn't see if Activision drops support for the platform. Note: This has almost zero chance of happenning, as most of these games are nearly finished. It's merely a "what if?" scenario.

Let me know if there's anything missing, but if Activision drops support for PlayStation 3, here's the games that wouldn't be appearing on the machine in 2009:

Which game would you miss the most? Something tells me it's not Ice Age.

I would drop the price right quick if I where Sony. Modern Warfare 2 alone would be a HUGE loss for the PS3.

ultimate alliance and modern warfare are the only 2 games on that list worth a dam anyway.

Patrick, why don't you and Activision get together and form an angry mob at sony? (j/k) But they should at least lower the price by $50, even if by force. (well, not really)

I thought Act. said they would be looking into cutting from their 2010 and 2011 developments?
But I can see it as possible for them to come through on their threats, if due to the lack of sales of PS3's, Act. isnt saling what they feel is enough copies of their titles to make it worth their while to develop for those systems. Its logical, but I wouldnt think it true...

Activision's CEO is totally bluffing, but anyway, I could really do without everything on that release list. I'll probably end up getting MW2 and loving it for a month just like MW & W@W. I haven't seen much for Wolfenstein but I might check it out if the reviews are good. Just keep the Killzone 2 maps coming and I'm set.

Knee-capped! Never heard of a situation quite like this before. Could be devastating, knowing that Sony exclusives rarely sell great.

Arcadejumpers.com would say: The COD series, upcoming Modern Warfare Games, and Guitar Hero series!

Only one of those I really care about is marvel ultimate alliance 2...though I can certainly see MW2 and Wolfenstein causing a few tears..Natrually I suck at shooters so it's not really that big a deal...

also naturally I have a 360 too so I'd still see these titles...only wouldn't be able to play them free online!!

though that's more of an icing on the cake thing...so really I myself don't mind..

Those with only one console though...would probably feel some stinging...not unlike getting a blood test...they could survive it...but would still like a cookie or something to help them cope..

    The quote was:
“They [Sony] have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates are likely to slow," Kotick told the newspaper. "If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony. When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console — and the PSP too.”
We'd be looking at games launching in 2010 or 2011... these are almost all 2009 titles. Even so... the loss of of some of the properties would be a big hit.

That is a semi-impressive list. I assume the PS3 would see games up until Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. Biggest game they would miss (make them the most money or close to it), Modern Warfare 2.

Actually i'm fine with that if they want to drop PS3 and lose all the guitar hero fan boys that own ps3s then fine, I think they'd lose people to rock band.
