The public face of Epic Games' Gears of War franchise, Cliff Bleszinski, isn't about to abandon the franchise that's made him a household name among gamers and is dispelling rumors about what he's working on next. Hint: it's not the horror game that's been rumored by magazines and websites, according to a new interview at OXM UK.
"[Horror is] a genre that's near and dear to me and I would love to somewhere down the line get around to doing something like that," said Bleszinski. "But it's a tough sell when you start making something psychological, single-player oriented, very nuance-based."
"And that will be a challenge, because in case you haven't noticed, at Epic, we're not always that good at nuance," he continued. "We tend to paint with large brushstrokes. So no, I'm not making a horror game next. Gears is very much near and dear to me."
So, Bleszinski has ruled out that a horror game is next on his plate, but if Epic Games follows the same development pattern as Gears of War, it's possible we could see our first glimpse at Gears of War 3 next year. Unless, of course, Bleszinski is tired of the franchise...?
"I'm not burned out on [Gears] at all," he said.
Let the games begin.
