Just Cause 2 E3 2009 Game Director Interview »

Gamers are a demanding bunch. They want new features and experiences for their money, and combined with the increased pressure on developers as the cost to produce games continues to rise, it's a tricky question to answer. Just Cause 2 game director Magnus Nedfors admitted it's hard to find a balance between trying something new and including features gamers already know and love.

"I can't really point to a special [inspiration] that is a role model for Just Cause -- it's so wide," said Nedfors at E3. "It's games, it's movies, it's TV shows, it's books and stuff that we read. It's a mix match of everything. I think that today it's hard to be unique in every way. Of course, you will see similarities if you want to. The car handling, that's inspired by different car games and the combat is inspired by different car games."

For more, check out the complete interview with Nedfors from the floor of this year's E3. It does beg a larger question, though. How much innovation do you demand from your games?
