Square Enix surprised a lot of people when it unveiled Final Fantasy XIV at Sony's E3 2009 press conference. Some gamers thought that it might be the second coming of the MMO Final Fantasy XI. Producer Hiromichi Tanaka said that's not the case:
"Characters in the trailer looked very similar to the ones in Final Fantasy XI. That's pretty much the only thing that's going to be similar. The gameplay and the story are going to be completely different."

Yeah I'm cheap...though Sony certainly seems ready to toss out the subscription free mmo out there.....at least three I know of on their part....
and they could always just tie the 360 version to XBL this time out...
As said...I'm cheap....here's hoping they announce Kotor is coming to the consoles too...

@chocosquirrel Then you've should've played XI due to the fact it nearly has the same battle system.
Yet, this will probably be the next MMORPG that I'll invest 5+ years in... The First... was FF XI.

Fail. No really guys it will be different and you will only have to pay 15 dollars a month this time around. NO thank you!!!! I play FF titles to beat the CPU not fight and run around with a bunch of D-bags. You want to make this game a four player co-op style then you are talking. I made a mistake of playing 11 I will not make the same mistake again.

I hope they keep or do something similar or expand upon the job and sub job system. One of the things I really enjoyed about FFXI was the fact that I could have one character change into what ever job I felt like playing whether that be tanking one day or healing the next or even duel wielding WHM/NIN. That was one of the features I loved. The leveling system gave a new meaning to "grinding out levels" and I would not mind if they change that to be a bit more solo and small group friendly. At higher levels, had to set aside way too much time to find a party and level. But I do look forward to FFIV and cannot wait to play it. I am in need of a new mmorpg type game to play.

i hope they avoid any thing that looks like ffxii for all of time that thing sucked. but what i would like to see since they are moving to the xbox with ffxiii if they will start releasing the games on pc in the future as well. Any ways as long as this doesnt mesh same release time with star wars mmo ill be picking it up

If they make the battle system similar to FFXII, this may be the first MMORPG I will play.

The 24 hour boss was not a spoof on anything and has been killed a few times. SE fixed it in an update and made it considerably weaker; it now despawns if not killed in two hours.
Definitely can't wait for this game to come out, most of my linkshell is ready to swap to XIV on release assuming beta leaves us all with good impressions.

"i played ffxi for too long" x2... so did i, but im definitely gonna grab this game for curiosity's sake. mmorpgs definitely a big investment, but in the end everyone know's nothing can come out of it... relax and enjoy it instead of playing to win it, cause that can't be done.

I played FFXI for too long.. I don't know if i have time to play that type of game again. FFXI took sooo much time and dedication.

to Infamous_Bizarro the boss in FF11 is suppsoe to be unkillable from what i hear since it was made as a spoof to the WOW southpark episode

Im gonna check this one out, I'm a total Final Fantasy dork. I just hope it's not a huge let down like FFXI. Hated the leveling in that game.

I refuse to play subscription fees on any game, plus it looks like a better version of FF XI, which really doesn't excite me at all.
