Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto is working alongside Team Ninja to develop Metroid: Other M for Wii, but if you were hoping for a legion of old school Metroid designers to join Sakamoto, you might be a little disappointed. I asked Sakamoto what other veteran Metroid staff was working on Metroid: Other M at E3.
"From the Super Metroid staff, we actually don't have anyone working on this Other M project," explained Sakamoto. "But we have two members of the previous handheld versions of Metroid working on the game; one gentleman worked on maps and some of the traps from the previous games and we also have a designer who worked on the digital elements from the handheld games."
But hey, Sakamoto was the director on Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission. Curiously, he wasn't involved with Metroid II: Return of Samus, but he did oversee production of the three Metroid Prime games at Retro Studios.
That's enough for experience for me, kids.

Metroid falls into the curse of Nintendo like Zelda and Mario. After Super Metroid, Link Awakening, Mario 3, what are they to do. How can you top the francise after that? It is interesting that they are having a new group of people have a shot at it, I think it is the only way to keep things interesting.

The men behind this game could not have come off more confident than they did during my interview. I'm almost certain Metroid: Other M will be something special.

Don't know about it just yet. I would say from the video my first impression is worried but it's a long way out. I loved Super Metroid it was awesome and I loved all the prime series. I just hope they don't miss the ambient, exploration, and some of the slower moments in the series. That's what I love the most about them.

Please don't let Stephen Johnson take anymore vacations. I will never make fun of the sucky Packers again.
@ Klepek
Don't think you got away with this!
Really though, nothing against you, I just have a morning routine that seems off course.

I've only played MP3: corruption, and I was SPEECHLESS for a week! Who knows what they can do?

With Team Ninja working on that game, Samus must've got a boob job to jiggle like crazy!
Warrior_Elite11
Agreed.

The hand-held Metroid games were pretty fun as they harkened back to the day of a simpler, 2D Metroid. I'm sure this game is in good hands and will turn out fine. That being said; Super Metroid for the SNES is THE best Metroid game ever. I liked the Prime trilogy a lot, but Super Metroid was just face-meltingly awesome.
