I just finished telling you about how analysts are predicting that Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest selling game of the year. And now it comes out that Activision might very well be working on a new subscription-based online service for the multiplayer portions of future Call of Duty games.
Destructoid cites a random survey it received that outlines a possible online service that would add all kinds of bells and whistles to COD multiplayer, including early access to map packs and betas, exclusive skins, enhanced stat tracking, access to special in-game modes, and even new team management options. The service would either be available as part of some special edition package or players could just sign up like any subscription-based MMO.
Neither the survey nor the service it outlines is likely to be confirmed any any time soon, but I’m sure that won’t stop hardcore COD fans from speculating and debating what this service could possible end up being, if in fact it’s even in the works.
What’s your take on a subscription-based COD multiplayer service?
