There is actually a button at Microsoft that would result in Xbox Live going completely offline, The New York Times discovered (via Gizmodo) while checking out the server farms that allow millions of gamers to fight each other online every day. Pushing the button would result in the shut down of everything that keeps the service running.
Wow, that's power.

This is old news to me i know that thay have a button at Microsoft that would result in Xbox Live going completely offline. And if you ask me how i know because i got Pushing that button last time live was down for a long time lol. how i did you may ask like how Solid Snake will do it by defeats each member of Microsoft one by one, destroys XBox LIVE.
@ProjektX13 if you put a fork in a toaster you die. + the toaster also runs linux.

@thundercunter
no, xbox live is like the most important thing in the world next to water and that is why it only takes one button to bring it down. while the ps3 is like a a toaster and all you need to do is stick a fork in it.
Thundercracker
so essentially xbl is just like megamaid, cause it has a self destruct button, and it sucks

Sorry to bust bubbles, but this button is required in any large server room. It shuts down the power and ventilation to the room in case of fire. It's required by the National Electric Code.

This is big! Do the Russians know about this? Quick, remove this article before they find out!
Blue_Vortex
lol I bet ps3 fanboys will sneak in and press the button while no one is looking, good thing I don't pay for xbox live (STEAM FTW)
SplinterSess
Just like 2001 A Space Odyssey, HAL: What are you doing, Dave?

It's called a circuit breaker. Seriously. A complicated circuit breaker, but essentially just a circuit breaker.

Wow, and here we all thought M$ hardware crashes and fails on its own. I wonder if the button works or if that can get the red rings too...
skwareballz
push the button XBL goes down
the servers restart 5 minutes later XBL is back up
who cares
mellorobz
this is scary in a way
DEAThHEART
that is the stupiest thing to do... and its dangerous, even if it sounds practical.

having just one button? just one button shuts down xbox live? It sounds easy and practical for now, but wait until someone pushs it. One button huh? that is very is very dangerous and stupid.
ihitterdal
BUTTON! Must push the button! It CALLS me to do it! Every button does!
...Okay, I think I've lost it.
pipspoolcleaning3
okay so why do I now feel like there are going to be crazy people out there, ps3 fanatics or just crazy people in general, that are going to plan heists to push that button. Kind of like the movie HEAT and FANBOYS put together in the saddest but most entertaining future story of the day. By releasing this info you have destroyed xbox live one day...for a day or two until it comes back online. :)
nvserg
I'll give you $5 bucks if you pull the plug lol
mckin3228
but...but what if the button breaks while xbl is down? :P
