Between now and the end of the year, there are a slew of ridiculous titles being released, all begging for your time and money. And while you might have your theories about which game will be the big winner in the sales department, Janco Partners’ Mike Hickey believes that Infinity Ward’s highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 will force the surrender of all comers this holiday season.
As Gamasutra reports, Hickey predicts that MW2, “will likely be the largest video game release for [calendar year] 2009.” Hickey goes on to say that by the end of December, the game will have sold 11.1 million units, generating around $803 million in sales. That’s an increase of around 4 million units when compared to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The increase will most likely have to do with the fact that, as Hickey points out, “the combined Xbox 360 and PS3 installed base for US and Europe has grown 125 percent and 200 percent, respectively since Modern Warfare’s November '07 release.”
And if that wasn’t enough MW2 domination for you, Hickey says that he and his fellow analysts expect the game will be one of the largest entertainment releases of all time (No real surprise there), and it has the potential to possibly do over $338 million in worldwide sales in just its first day of release. Now that's a bold prediction, but if any game has the potential to make it happen, it is most certainly MW2.

Well.... If Blizzard decided to release either StarCraft 2 or Dibalo 3 by the end of the year... it's more then likely that MW2 will be the biggest seller....unfortunately

umm i think these analyst are completely wrong. just looking at numbers here when i play on xbl cod 4 and cod waw players only add up to 150k halo is at a strong 250k. im not saying odst is gonna beat this. but it has a better chance so does assassins creed and lfd2 and forza and even splinter cell. all in all theres just to much competition, for a game thats gonna almost be the exact same game as cod4. this is why halo probably not gonna get it to cause its the same thing. people are just looking for something new

i think this game is gonna have a bit longer lifetime than the cod4 cuz at the microsoft press conference they said they will get the 2 new map packs first. so that will take some time then they will slowly go on the ps3 and pc and then who knows maybe some more maps idk

the funniest thing about this artical is watching the fanboys of other games defend their game and attacking MW2... Im a Battlefront Fan thats the only game I want.. but till then MW2 will keep me occupied....

Well, since you said that, now I'm not gonna buy it right away simply out of spite. I kid, I kid. But no, I had no intention of buying this game at launch, maybe a few months after. I'm sure my time this coming fall and holiday season will be taken up by two or three exclusives. All the luck to IW, though!

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime announced during the E3 2009 Activision Blizzard webcast that StarCraft 2 release date is expected internally to be late 2009.

Sure many great games are coming out but I still have this game on TOP of my list.
Don't get me wrong, I am going to get Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, and such but Modern Warfare 2 will be number 1!
