ArmA II, Bohemia Interactive's follow-up to ArmA: Combat Operations and the original Operation Flashpoint, is a pretty incredible modern warfare simulator. As far as a game goes, it's very hardcore, but if you want to simulate a modern war, look no further than ArmA II.

YouTube user richiespeedisback (he's been progressively cranking up the number as he goes) has created a custom mission pitting 1000 AI-controlled soldiers and vehicles against each other. Watch it and listen to the sounds of battle, look at the explosions, feel the chaos!

ArmA II will be released on the PC in the US on June 26, 2009 with console versions (PS3, Xbox 360) planned for release later this year.

The textures were A+ and the explosion physics and particles were decent and sort of unique, but it really was chugging with that much going on. It's cool that you would be able to essentially make a full scale war, but it still seems a little off for it to be a fun game at that level.

I know he has a little disclaimer at the beginning of the video, but a demo where you hoof it for five minutes, never encounter and enemy, and then are randomly blow up is not a very good demo.

The graphics were so/so. There seemed to be heavy use of repeated decals/textures in the smoke and grass. I think a daytime map will be the real telling point in whether it's worthwhile or not.

The first Arma was SO BUGGY that they had to release a gold edition where they didnt support the original buyers of this product at all. They said you want it fixed, buy the gold. F this game.. I would never buy this POS again

Wow, that looks like it needs some serious streamlining to deal with that lag (or maybe it's just the quality of the youtube video?)

Either way, I was excited for OFP:DR, now I've got another one to wrinkle my pants over. Honestly, I don't think Modern Warfare 2 is ever going to make it's way into my home if these 2 turn out as good as I'm expecting.

it didn't feel like 1000, felt like 200, i think a day time demonstration and maybe an over view camera would better sample what hes trying to show off.
