Cheats and Walkthroughs

Normally, if a particular game manages to do solid enough business, its publisher is most likely willing to look past less than stellar reviews should the game fail to be as received as highly as anticipated. However, if a game fails to charm the critics and fails to sell well, then you have what the French call a “bad situation.”
Well, this is precisely where mega-publisher Capcom finds itself today. As Gamasutra reports, the company’s latest next-gen installment in its classic action franchise Bionic Commando, developed by GRIN, only managed to sell 27,000 copies in its first month of release. What makes that number even more painful is the fact that, as Joystiq reported last August, GRIN’s other BC game, Bionic Commando: Rearmed (XBLA, PSN, PC), managed to sell 130,000 copies just in its first week when it was released last year. Rearmed was also more well received by critics, as it currently has a Metacritic score of 85, while BC has a score of 70, which should please many a "gameplay over graphics" advocate out there.
Price obviously has a lot to do with the massive disparity between the sales of the two titles, but there’s no doubt that 27,000 sales in a month is nowhere near what Capcom had hoped for from the first truly next-gen installment of one of its most beloved and long running franchises.
How many of you picked up Bionic Commando during its first month of release? Did you also buy BC: Rearmed? Which one do you prefer?

Considering what other game experiences one can have with competitive titles, this title was pretty weak. The multi player demo was poor reminiscent of shallow NES games that we've all wasted our money on. I bought Rearmed because of its nostalgic appeal as I loved the old NES version but I only played it a couple of times. The game was poorly executed. Games like COD, GOW, Mass Effect, Madden, Halo, Fall Out, RE, and GTA provide rich experiences.

Grin is Swedish based...and i don't think Japanese companies can do 3D as good as US and EU...but I do agree capcom should stay japanese for the most part...where's Megaman
Letters2Kay
Hooray. I hope the crap sales send a message to Capcom that we don't want to see these Western Crapcom titles. Capcom should stay a Japanese company. Anything else is just wrong...

I got Bionic Commando Re-Armed when it first showed up on the PSN. I was a huge fan of the original (Hitler's head exploding... score!) and even had the Game Boy games. I was pretty excited about the new game coming out... until I watched a few videos on it. Once it came out, the reviews on it were pretty uneven, as some advocates didn't seem like they played it as much as those who really detailed their reasoning for a lower, or average score. Your testimonies only proove that most people didn't enjoy it enough for me to want to spend 60 dollars. I'll wait until it goes to a bargain bin, and if I am done playing inFamous, Prototype, Valkyrie Chronicles, and Metal Gear Solid 4, I may pick it up.

its crazy how many gaming sites i go to where people rag on this game...literally hundreds of people are complaining about the most pitiful things and they don't really make any sense from a gameplay standpoint...if you keep dying from fire, water, radiation, etc over and over this equates to you being weak at the game not the game being weak...lol i doubt i've even died more than 5 times because of some radiation in the SP campaign
the core elements of this game are fantastic: graphics, swinging, weapons/shooting, difficulty, enemy-types, multiplayer, etc.
hair, collectibles, loading, story (i could give a damn about this), the voice acting, are not and don't have any bearing on how fun the game is.
so if the core elements are fantastic then what is everyone smoking to not realize the game is fun on these merits alone?

6 simple words get rid of the f-ing radiation.
(now was that so had making it a freeroaming non linear game"

i think capcom is getting gayer..

capcom simply needs to work and watch out on doing the remakes they are doing with their catalog of games. they are becoming like sega lately. it looks promising but it just ends up disappointing.
i'm sure i'll get crap for saying this but even street fighter 4 and resident evil 5 wasn't that incredible that at all.

I was looking forward to this game, and I bought it on day one. And I am not surprised it sold so poorly. It was pretty bad. The Swinging Mechanics were poorly implemented. They only wished it were as smooth as some of the Spiderman Games. And no, no I do not believe that they were designed to be more difficult purposely, they just sucked, end of story. The Graphics were really, really bad. Low Res Textures everywhere, and one of the worst Aliasing issues I have ever seen in a Next Gen Game. The story was laughable, the weapons were weak, and the online was booooring. Like I said, I am not surprised.

I want to get this game because I really loved Rearmed and I want to use the codes from it. But yeah I'll be waiting for a price drop first. How much did you guys get it on sale for at Target? I bet it's probably on clearance now since for some reason Target puts games on clearance pretty quickly if they aren't huge sellers.

@shooter mcgarvey
STRIDER remake, been saying that for years.

LOWER THE PRICE THATS WHAT I THINK
sukTHEfacc
why is this even an article? what's surprising about it? How many times have we seen developers (namely CAPCOM) take a big name and turn it into crap. gamers arent stupid, we watch videos and the press as a whole, especially in this economy. if 1up, gameinformer, ign, xplay, and gamespot all give a game a bad score, chances are it's because IT'S BAD.
I'm glad devs are finally realizing that making crap games with big names DOESNT PAY
in the name of the consumer! make better games if you want them to sell! SIMPLE!

The difference for me was I knew what I was getting with Rearmed. The new Bionic Commando was another creature entirely, and not one I was willing to risk $60 on.
sentry65
they just had to go and change the format of the game....
I would have been happier with an actual sequel to the 2D BCR than a total remake.
the production cycles would have been shorter with fresher ideas.
poker909
agree with status quo. BC was not on my list for a Capcom remake. I'm still waiting for a survival-horror genre RE game (not the 3rd persion action/shooter we got). I looked at BC, and now I may get if they drop the price to 19.99.
cryfordawn
People spent money on this game? Could you not tell it was a flop from the beginning.. I will buy it when its red tagged for 5.00 at target which should be any week now.
Bo_8
Too many "WTF" moments in the game. It would have been forgivable if I had lower expectations, I think. But for $60? This is horrible for a fan of the original BC.
Personally, I think the gaming industry needs to look at the price for games these days. They should take a hard look at themselves before they are in the same shoes as the recording music industry. If they are going to charge $60 for a game, they better make sure it plays well before they release it.
r_pad
The game could have been really good, but it's terribly uneven and too difficult for many gamers. The ending is getting panned, but I actually liked it. It had more nuance than most game stories.
