When I finished Mirror's Edge, my first reaction definitely was not: hey, this needs multiplayer. But as evidenced by the addition of multiplayer components to popular single-player games like Uncharted and BioShock in their respective sequels, clearly that's a common concept amongst game companies. Mirror's Edge may receive the same treatment in its sequel, too, if I'm reading between the lines of comments made by EA Games president Frank Gibeau to GameSpot.
"Mirror's Edge was a fresh, new take that did quite well in Europe," said Gibeau, discussing lessons learned from launch two major new franchises during the busy fall market, "but not as well in the US, and I think that one suffered a bit from a lack of multiplayer, as well as being a relatively short experience, shorter than we had hoped."
I immediately voiced my concerns about shoehorning multiplayer into Mirror's Edge to fellow editor Andrew, but only moments later, we were already brainstorming ideas that could work perfectly in a Mirror's Edge sequel. Here's a few of the ideas we came up with...
Andrew: I thought the length was just fine
Me: me too
Me: if by multiplayer they mean...real-time races
Me: that would be rad
Andrew: yeah, definitely potential there
Me: i don't want combat oh teh noes
Andrew: I would hope that's what they mean, and that they realize that it's an anti-combat game
Andrew: you could do some sort of tag-based CTF or something?
Me: yeah possibly
Andrew: or something cool like race to arm/disarm bombs around the city
Andrew: lots of things that don't involve the horrible guns
Me: ooh yeah, i like that
Me: a big jungle gym
Maybe multiplayer's not a bad idea, after all, if handled correctly. What do you think?

Price should have been $25 given the length and depth of this "game".
Having to walk on a tightrope and not seeing your feet - dumb.
Controls that don't respond consistently - fail.

i liked the demo, wouldn't buy the game at full price though

Lots of people bash this game when it was not even that bad, the demo left slight interest in my eyes so I bought it from a friend for $20.... Granted not worth $60 but well worth $20, could use some alternative controls for sure seeing as there are more then 4 buttons on the remote. Multiplayer for ANY game adds replay value, like heads up racing or even a objective base co-op.

@BertSaxby - It's $19.99 on Steam for PC. In fact, it has been for a few weeks.
@Juiceless - I can definitely see you point there; it seems like it'd be easier, at least for some, if the game had a 3rd person option.
@Klepek - Multiplayer races, CTF, and other objective based things do sound like they'd work rather well. If they had that for multiplayer, plus a "create your own runner" (for multiplayer, of course), and the option for third person view, I think that they would add a lot of replay value onto the game.

Cmon G4... the title should have read "Electronic Arts Believes Mirror's Edge Suffered From Being Released On PS3" then it would fit right in. If EA isn't blaming the PS3 for its bad sales, then this article is irrelevant on The Feed, geez.

@Bert
They're only expensive to you (and me) but it doesn't matter if you don't buy it, other do, prices are based on what people are willing to spend and many (and myself included) are willing to spend 60 dollars for a game. Plus I'm not a fan with trade in's so if I get a crappy game I try to make the best out of it lol. Oh and they aren't selling "Less and Less" they are selling more and more because people are willing to buy it for that much, gaming has grown substantially since the last Gen.

I played the demo and was thoroughly unimpressed. Maybe people like me are the reason it didn't do so great.

Wake up industry your games are too effin expensive.
I tried the demo and it was kinda cool, but I'm not paying $59.99, or $39.99 for that matter. If I don't buy it at release time then chances are it'll be two years or so before I get around to it...and by then it'll be a used title in the bargain bin for $9.99. Do the math, your pricing yourself out of existence. Of course you think you have to charge more for each title, because you are selling less and less because they're so $#@% high to begin with.

mirrors edge is a great concept but should have been a 3rd person game with a first person option i have a real problem with first person games in general and this game should have been first and 3rd person from day one

No... Mirror's Edge suffered from being a crappy game, not because of a lack of multi-player option. If anyone from EA is reading this; the game had a great concept, but the execution was terrible. Please just go back to the drawing board on this one. I would like to play a better version of Mirror's Edge if you can clean up all of the crap from the first one.

Absolutely, they could also do a point based game like in THPS, doing different tricks to earn more points. But in Mirror's Edge it would be parkour based, getting air and jumping over stuff
