Are you ready to move around in claustrophobic, headache-inducing, heavily-pixelated environments with no visible ceiling, as brown pixel blobs that are supposed to be Nazis fire at you? Of course you are! For 400 Microsoft points (or $5), anyway.
To gear up for the August release of the newest incarnation of the Wolfenstein franchise (hitting PS3, 360, and PC), Activision is dusting off Wolfenstein 3D, the game that started an entire genre. It will be available for download on the Xbox Live Marketplace on June 3, while hitting June 4 on the Playstation Store.
Will there be bonuses to Wolfenstein 2009 players who have downloaded the old game? That's the word according to Activision:
"Gamers taking the challenge to defeat the twisted Nazi regime also will earn accolades and be awarded gold for customizable weapon upgrades in id Software’s all new, Wolfenstein™"
In the meantime, XBL gamers can digest the game's Achievement List.
Before Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, or the approximately 10,000 total Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games, this one was there to instill a maxim into an entire generation that essentially said: "Killing people is totally cool, as long as they're Nazis." Well, if ain't broke, don't fix it, right? If you're a new gamer who is not familiar with this old-school classic, you may want to enrich yourself and give it a spin. You'll end up with a greater appreciation for the evolution of the first-person shooter and where we are today.

I was amazed that it took this long for this game to be released. It was a great amount fun, and I too ran along using the space bar trying to find hidden rooms.

Would rather have seen one of the older 2D versions.

WOW!! it was just a matter of time before this game came out for arcade play. I remember playing countless hours pressing the spacebar 100 times while running against the wall of every room to find all the treasures. now this is old school.
