As if Tim Schafer fans didn't have enough to be thrilled to death about, thanks largely to the fact that Brutal Legend is now closer than ever to rocking our unworthy minds to their cores. Now LucasArts has revealed that there are two, count 'em two, projects in the works based on Schafer's classic adventure franchise The Secret of Monkey Island.
The first project is a series of five episodes that will tell an entirely new story based on the Monkey Island universe called Tales of Monkey Island. The episodes will be released monthly starting in a few weeks on PC and WiiWare. Then, at some unspecified time later this summer, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be released on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC. The new version will sport high-def graphics, a re-mastered musical score, and complete voiceover work, because LucasArts apparently enjoys sending players into joy comas.
Tales of Monkey Island is being developed by Telltale, which features a bunch of the folks who worked on the original series, while LucasArts is handling the next-gen Monkey Island reboot internally. No word yet on pricing or a definite release date, but given that this is E3 week, don't be surprised if we know a lot more in the coming days. So be sure to tune in to G4 and G4tv.com's E3 '09 coverage all week for all the latest news.
