Last year, it was Rock Band, then Guitar Hero. Before that, it was Guitar Hero, then Rock Band. Activision Blizzard and MTV Games have been playing cat and mouse with one another when it comes to releasing their new music games, sometimes even making deals with console manufacturers to ensure complete secrecy. In 2009, the release pendulum has swung in the other direction.
I've compiled the release dates of Rock Band and Guitar Hero since both brands starting going head-to-head in 2007. It's been interesting to watch how each handled the introduction of Wii, the platform that's gone on to unexpectedly dominate music games sales -- despite Guitar Hero having the perception of being behind the curve, Activision was always first when it came to embracing Wii.
Without further ado, release dates for the mainline Guitar Hero and Rock Band games from 2007 to their upcoming releases -- Guitar Hero 5 and The Beatles: Rock Band -- in 2009:
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Wii -- October 28, 2007
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 -- November 30, 2007
PlayStation 2 -- December 18, 2007
Wii -- June 22, 2008

Do you think Guitar Hero 5's week jump on The Beatles: Rock Band will make a difference?
