To celebrate the release of Spore Galactic Adventures -- an expansion to Spore that lets people create and share their own adventures in the Sporeniverse -- Electronic Arts will release some free adventures via DLC on June 23 that were created by the writers of Robot Chicken, the Adult Swim stop-motion-with-toys sketch comedy show.

According to co-creator Matt Senreich, "There’s a guy who works at Maxis, Kevin Kurtz, who has been talking to me for years about us doing something with him. He likes our sensibility and our sense of humor, and he’s been he’s been looking for a while for a project for us to do. So he sent me a little tease of what they were doing with Spore Galactic Adventures, and I just bit. Then I presented it to the writers, who all signed on."

Members of the Robot Chicken production team -- including head writer Tom Root, and staff writer and voice talent Breckin Meyer -- even spent the day at EA’s Los Angeles offices with the developers of Galactic to see the expansion in action and to discuss the collaboration (footage of which can be viewed below).

Also involved in the project, and in the day at EA LA, were staff writers Kevin Shinick, Mike Fasolo, Zeb Wells, Hugh Sterbakov, and Matt Beans, as well as voice actor/writer Dan Milano, while the show’s co-creator and main voice actor Seth Green is also involved in the project, despite missing the field trip.

Not surprisingly, while EA were willing to let them push the envelope, the Chicken writers still managed to come up with some ideas that weren’t appropriate for a Spore game. Though we’d really like to know what since one of the adventures that EA showed off recently to promote this collaboration was set on a planet that’s just a giant rest stop.

Oh, and for their troubles, the Chicken crew were treated to free games. And no, we don’t just mean gratis copies of Spore.

In other Robot Chicken news, the DVD of Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II -- which features an extended version of that episode along with tons of extras -- is scheduled for release on July 21st.
