NPD time! As always, I'll be looking at the software sales with my esteemed colleague Raymond Padilla heading up the hardware sales analysis.

It was a relatively quiet month and overall, sales were down 23% when compared to last year, which saw the releases of Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Here's the top five:

Wii Fit w/ Balance Board, Nintendo, 471K

DS Pokemon Platinum, Nintendo, 433K

Wii Mario Kart Wii w/ Wheel, Nintendo, 210K

Wii Play w/ Remote, Nintendo, 170K

360 The Godfather II, EA, 155K

Nintendo certainly came to party and Pokemon Platinum continued to sell amazingly well moving just over half of its March count. The Godfather II surprises me a bit, but I guess a movie license is worth the trouble in a slow month. <exclude>Click through to see the rest of the top ten.</exclude>

360 Resident Evil 5, Capcom, 122K

DS New Super Mario Bros. , Nintendo, 119K

DS Mario Kart DS, Nintendo, 112K

360 Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Activision, 110K

PS3 The Godfather II, EA, 91K

The frequency of DS titles on this list most likely corresponds to the release of the DSi, which Raymond will tell you was surprisingly popular. I'm extremely surprised to see Guitar Hero: Aerosmith represent the franchises only top ten placement for April... especially since Guitar Hero: Metallica was released at the end of March (and failed to make the top ten). Well, GH: Aerosmith is $20 cheaper than Metallica.

Killzone 2 is completely gone as the PlayStation 3 only manages to put one game in the top ten, which is a performance I'm a little too used to seeing. Come on, Sony. Is it finally time to hire a new marketing firm? Hopefully, inFAMOUS will pull them out of their slump along with performances from some multiplatform titles like Wolverine, UFC 2009 Undisputed, Terminator: Salvation, and Bionic Commando.

If inFAMOUS doesn't perform, it will probably signal the long haul to the next-exclusive for the PS3. To date, none have popped like Halo or Gears of War. If you're a PS3 fan and you're angry about these numbers... buy more games.
