In light of the huge brouhaha and foofaraw concerning the closing of Duke Nukem Forever developers 3D Realms and the seeming cancellation of the long-awaited FPS, the following announcement can be seen as either humorous or sad, depending on your point-of-view, but Deep Silver and Apogee Games are desperately searching for a real life Duke Nukem, and they've widened the net to the whole online world.
Would-be candidates are invited to submit a video of themselves being all Duke-like, and the winner will get the opportunity to portray Duke to help promote The Duke Nukem Trilogy, a collection of three episodes: Critical Mass, Chain Reaction, and Proving Grounds for Nintendo DS and PSP.
"We are opening the floodgates on the search for the next live-action Duke Nukem. Before we were reaching out to the fans with a three-city nationwide search, but due to the high demand we have chosen to expand our search to allow every Duke fan a chance to submit their entry," said Chad McNeil, marketing manager for Deep Silver, Inc. "This is going to be one of the craziest promotions the videogame industry has seen for a long time!" And the saddest; I'd rather someone search for a way to release Duke Nukem Forever than an actor who looks like the main character.
I'm tempted to hire an actor in his late 70s, put him in the Duke gear and makeup and have him say, "I'm here to do two things: Kick ass and chew my liver pills. Why won't you put my real game out!?!"
