When you think of EA’s Redwood Shores Studio, the team behind such lighthearted titles as Dead Space, as well as the upcoming Dead Space Extraction and Dante’s Inferno, you probably imagine a peaceful tree-lined coastal vista, and a cool salty breeze lightly brushing across your face. Well, you can forget about ever making that mistake again.
EA has just announced that Redwood Shores Studio is now Visceral Games. Take that ya stupid coastal breeze! The renaming and rebranding are meant to reflect the studio’s approach to development, which I’m pretty sure includes a stage where puppies are harmed in some way. I’m just saying, these guys have dark sensibilities, and they know how to use them.
EA's vice president and general manager of Visceral Games, Glen Schofield, said via press release:
“Action, intensity, excellence. It isn’t just in our DNA, it’s in our blood. For the past two years, we have adopted a new culture that prizes excellence above all else. Primal action is the beating heart of the studio and now our new name reflects that.”
That sounds about right. But if for some reason you have doubts about whether the company will be able to live up to the new image, be check out Brian Leahy's hands-on preview of Dante's Inferno.
