Last week, EA Sports used Fight Night Round 4 to conduct a simulation of last Saturday's boxing mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton. Complete with a description and simulated scorecard, EA's prediction looks like a complete joke in retrospect. Here's the prediction:
And here's EA's scorecard:
If you haven't seen the fight then you might want to avoid the rest of this article.
As many of you know, Pacquiao annihilated Hatton. I mean...he just utterly destroyed (as opposed to partially destroyed) him in two rounds. He was dominant from the first second of the fight and laid out Hatton with one of the most chilling lefts I've ever seen in a fight below welterweight.
To be fair, EA's prediction sounded perfectly reasonable last week. Most boxing writers thought Pacquiao was going to win via knockout, but most figured that it would come in the later rounds. The majority of the boxing press thought that Hatton's size and strength advantages would allow him to hang with "Pac-Man" for a bit. I don't recall a single prediction -- outside of Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach -- that had Pac blowing out Hatton inside of three rounds. It was an awfully impressive performance.
With EA's prediction and the fight behind us, I'm wondering if any of you caught the fight? What did you think of Pacquiao? Think Hatton will hang it up after such a crushing defeat?
