King of Kong

Old-school video game legend Steve Wiebe officially broke the world record for Donkey Kong Jr. last week in preparation for the big show: His attempt to shatter the record for Donkey Kong during E3 in June. Wiebe scored 1,139,800 on the DK Jr. machine, and his record-bursting game was verified by video game officiating site Twin Galaxies, so you know it's legit.

On June 2, Wiebe, subject and star of documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, will attempt to make history right here on G4, when he squares off against a Donkey Kong machine at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. We'll be bringing you live feed on the web, as well as featuring Wiebe on our television coverage, so either way, you're covered and you won't miss history being made!

Former DK Jr. record holder Ike Hall was gracious in his defeat: "I'm not surprised he was able to beat it," Hall told Twin Galaxies. "I'm definitely going to try and reclaim it, but it won't be an easy hill to climb."

Don't miss G4's comprehensive E3 2009 coverage. We're dropping three days of live shows on-air and 24-hours-a-day internet coverage of the video game industry's annual party. It's as good as being there, and it doesn't smell funny!

Great job steve, it was so wrong how he wouldn't play you in person, he is such a wuss. He should not be playing at all for the world record if he is gonna do it with a video and refuses to be under the pressure of playing live like you do. way to go beating the jerk!
