It's not exactly hardcore, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I like karaoke games, whether it's playing them at a party or playing along. I got the music in me, brother, and it's got to come out. That's why I'm happy that Sony is patching the PS3 versions of ace karaoke series SingStar to include trophies and voice control as well as a few other changes.
Trophies are a welcome addition to the game, because who cares if you're a great singer if you don't have verifiable proof of your awesome voice? Interestingly, along with trophies for doing well in the game, like "Your Golden Moment Fill: every bonus note in a ‘normal’ length song," there are a lot of trophies given for using various social networking features of the game, like "Welcoming Party: Receive 50 visits to your Profile page." I'm not sure why I should get a trophy for leaving a comment on another user's page, but on the other hand: Free trophy! Check out the full list here.
The new voice control menu will enable you to navigate the song carousel with your voice alone, so your PS3 will finally shut up and listen for once. Talking to your PS3 is a cool feature for this game, especially for non-gamers who are easily frustrated and confused by menu navigation.
The other improvements to SingStar: Quick song purchase functionality and an enhanced redesign of the SingStore and MySingStarOnline. The new patch is free to users and will be compatible with all SingStar PS3 discs.
