Final Fantasy VII is now available on Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN)...in Japan (or if you have a Japanese account overseas). Square Enix's classic role-playing game (RPG) for the original PlayStation was arguably the game that took the genre to the mainstream. The PSN offering of Final Fantasy VII is sure to break all kinds of records for Sony, but it comes at a comparatively hefty price. Wired Game|Life's Chris Kohler was amused at the game's pricing:
I've heard of "Apple tax" and "early-adopter tax", so I guess this would qualify as FFVII tax. There's no word on the North American release at this time, but hopefully that will be coming soon.
Although FFVII isn't among my favorite games in the series (I thought it was good, but not great), there's no denying its immense popularity. It will interesting to see how the game does as a digital download. I'm sure it will be nuts.
Will you guys download FFVII when it becomes available in your region? Would you play it on your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable? Do you think the game's price is fair? Leave a comment and let me know (please)!
