Hudson Soft (Japan) has announced that it has shipped two-million copies of Deca Sports for Nintendo Wii. Hudson Entertainment (America) has not yet issued a press release confirming these numbers. Although the installed based of the Wii is enormous, which would make it a bit easier for publishers to hit big numbers, the game was critically slammed. Metacritic averaged out its sources to give Deca Sports a 50/100, while Gamerankings aggregated a 53.96/100.
While game sales don't always reflect the quality of a given title, it pains me (as someone that has reviewed hundreds of games) to see that so many people are buying bad games. It reminds of 1999, when Superman 64 sold like blueberry muffins (screw pancakes) -- the whole thing made me question the point of writing game reviews...which in turn made me question my existence. (Internal monologue: "It's happening again! Noooooo!!!)
Time to 'fess up! Did you happen to buy a copy of Deca Sports? Each one of you that admits to this will cause me to bang my head on my desk.
