'Bioshock 2' Gameplay Footage

Posted April 10, 2009 - By Stephen Johnson

The first gameplay footage from upcoming mega-sequel Bioshock 2 has hit the web, and it looks stunning. Obviously, this post is nothing but spoilers, so if you like to keep games "pure" before you play them, would you kindly avert your eyes?

In the clip below, you'll see the player chasing after Big Sister, and the return of "old friend" Tenenbaum. During the pursuit, Big Sister smashes one of Rapture's windows to the sea, and lets the water flow. Because you are a Big Daddy in the game, walking on the sea floor is no problem. It's very, very impressive.

In the second section of the clip, we see the Big Daddy's point of view as he dispatches splicers with Plasmids and the amazing rush and drill attack -- it's much less annoying when it's not aimed at you, eh?  Check it out:

As someone who wasn't completely convinced about the viability of a sequel to one of the best games ever, just watching this clip has me entirely onboard. Bring it! Overall, Bioshock 2 looks like Bioshock, but more. I think Rapture looks a little worse for wear than in the first game. As if it's been left under the sea to rot a while. Note the lack of electricity in the first half of this clip. The hanging wires. The lovingly rendered desolation. It's dark, creepy, atmospheric and awesome. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

The game is scheduled for release on the PC, PS3 and 360 simultaneously by the end of the year. Time, would you kindly pass a little faster so I can play this?
