Legendary old-school gamer Steve Wiebe, star of documentary King of Kong, will attempt to reclaim his Donkey Kong throne at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo. G4 viewers can watch the barrel-jumping action live with our exclusive access to the special event on Tuesday, June 2 as part the network’s week-long E3 coverage.
Wiebe was the first person to record a DK score of over a million points, but he ultimately lost his best-ever status to his nemesis, Billy Mitchell, as documented in The King Of Kong: A First Full Of Quarters. Now Wiebe aims to reclaim the throne. Since the documentary and the loss of his title to Mitchell in 2007, Wiebe has attempted to break the record four times, but has not succeeded. With his latest attempt in October 2008, he scored 1,000,200, which is only the second time that a million point score has been achieved in public, but it was still not enough to unseat Mitchell. Now, as Wiebe gears up for his fifth effort, fans will witness Wiebe's revenge live...if he can defeat his own personal final boss, Billy Mitchell. It's going to be dramatic.
To keep everything nice and official, Twin Galaxies, the authority on video game score rankings, will provide the official Donkey Kong unit and be on-hand to record Wiebe’s score
You'll see video game history made before your eye on Tuesday, June 2, right here on G4. Do not dare miss it!
