French game publisher Ubisoft used GDC as a platform to announce a new World War II RTS. R.U.S.E comes from Eugen Systems, creators of Act of War: Direct Action, and is scheduled for release on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by the end of 2009.
The game's hook: Players use deception to trick opponents and obtain worldwide victory. To put it in Ubisoft's words: "Truth is the first casualty of war."
One of the tools the cool new technological tools the game uses: The "IRISZOOM Engine" which offers an interface that allows for rapid transitions from a birds-eye view of the entire conflict, down into the heat of the battle and vice versa.
Cool visuals are one thing, but tricking opponents seem to be one of the coolest innovations R.U.S.E brings to the RTS genre. In R.U.S.E players can reportedly mislead enemies by various means, similar to how actual heads of armies mislead enemies.
If you're curious about R.U.S.E, do not miss X-Play's GDC coverage on Thursday evening-- Adam Sessler sat down with the game's senior producer, Mathieu Girard, and went in-depth about this upcoming game!
