The game Stranglehold is a sequel to John Woo's classic Hong Kong action flick Hard Boiled. But now a movie version of the video game is on its way, which is remarkable in that Stranglehold the movie will be both a video game tie-in flick and a sequel at the same time.
That's the good news. But get ready for some bad news! The Stranglehold movie will reportedly be a prequel and will not be directed by Hard Boiled auteur John Woo. That role will fall upon Stephen Fung, an established Hong Kong actor turned director. Sad.
Furthermore, the story revolves around a "much younger Tequila," according to producer Terence Chang, which most likely means no Chow Yun-Fat. Extra sad.
Hopefully, whoever stars in the movie will be able to capture the character, but I'm considering just playing through Stranglehold. At least that stars the likeness of Chow Yun-Fat.
