Mythic will be shutting down 63 servers for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Characters on these servers will be transferred to new realms as the company consolidates its player base in the US and Europe.
The US will lose 43 servers and Europe will drop 20. This goes along with recent layoffs in Mythic's QA and customer service departments.
Reportedly, subscriptions have dropped to approximately 300,000 from 500,000. It should be noted, however, that this is more than enough to keep a game alive. Mythic's own Dark Age of Camelot (and most non-World of WarCraft MMORPGs) went through several server consolidations.
The move will cut costs for Mythic while keeping player populations concentrated.
