Capcom's 'Resident Evil 5' Promotion Is Almost As Silly As Acclaim's Old Stunts

Capcom is asking its English fans to participate in a contest that promotes Resident Evil 5. Taking place on March 12, gamers are tasked with scouring London for zombie majini parts. The winner with the most limbs will win a trip to Africa. Oh yeah, to ensure Capcom knows which people are participating in the contest and which are wackos walking around with rotting limbs, it wants contestants to make an ass of themselves:

"Alert us to your presence by standing on the bridge, holding the artificial body parts over your head and shouting 'Kijuju!' We will be there, watching you, and will approach when you make yourselves known."

Although it's not quite that bad, this stunt reminds me of some the silly things Acclaim UK did earlier this decade. Remember when it was rewarding its fans for changing their name to Turok for a year, having Shadow Man engraved on the tombstones of loved ones and getting speeding tickets in the name of Burnout? The Resident Evil 5 contest isn't that ridiculous, but it's leaning that way. Hopefully, this isn't the start of a new trend. Then again, a lot of people can be coerced into doing stupid things during The Great Recession.
