Sony will be discontinuing its Go!Messenger service in Europe which enabled things like video-chat, video messages, voice messages, and text messages on the PSP with the appropriate peripheral. The service launched on February 29, 2008 and will officially come to an end on March 31, 2009.

“Although Go!Messenger brought innovative communications features to the PSP community, the service has not developed the base of users that we were hoping for,” said a PlayStation Network community team leader.

SCEE will not cut any jobs with the closing of this service. Services like this are cool, but always confuse me. Why do I want to turn my portable gaming device into a video-conferencing machine that requires a Wi-Fi network? I just want to play games!

Any Europeans out there get a chance to try the service out?
