Dear G4tv.com Visitors,
Last week, some of you may have noticed something funky going on with the site... particularly on TheFeed. It turns out that there was a third party advertisement serving up malware to some users – redirecting their browsers to a site which indicated that they had a virus (then potentially dropping a trojan horse on their rigs). As soon as we discovered the malware, we jumped right on it. And thanks to tireless efforts of our faceless web development team (and some of Feed readers that pitched in), we’ve isolated the problem and everything is back to normal.
If this happened to you while visiting the site, please update and run whatever virus protection you have on your computer. Any updated program will catch this virus, and most of you will find that it didn’t touch your computer at all. To be honest, you should be running scans and cleaning house on viruses on a weekly basis. You should also put on a coat so you don’t catch a cold. Great, now I’m everyone’s mother. Sigh.
This particular trojan was extremely difficult to track down as it didn’t hit every user and never hit the same IP address twice. But we did it. If you’re interested in seeing how it worked you can learn more here (http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/security/61222.html). Those evil virus writers are a crafty bunch. Think of all the good they could do if they were spending that energy making video games.
Again, we deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We always want your experience on the site to be entirely awesome. If you have any questions, require help or just need a hug please leave a comment below or email the webmaster. He loves hugs from strangers. It’s creepy.
