If you're anything like me, you're jonesing for scraps of info about Dead Rising 2 like a zombie longs for fresh brains. Today is our lucky day: Capcom R&D head Keiji Inafune appeared on Capcom's Secret Files podcast recently and dropped some details on the open world, next-gen zombie-riffic game. Here's what we know:
- Setting: "We're working on a setting which I think will be even more impressive than the mall from Dead Rising," said Inafune. "We are creating a casino-themed setting for our game. We want to see what happens when zombies are set loose on this adult playground." Inafune wouldn't say whether the setting was based on a real-life gambling mecca like Vegas or Laughlin.
- On choosing a "Western" developer (Blue Castle Games): Inafune recognized "certain limitations that we ran into simply because we came at the game from a single Japanese perspective." But don't worry. Blue Castle's involvement doesn't mean a complete break from the past. According to Inafune, "key staff from the original game meet with Blue Castle on a weekly basis over video conferences."
- On Capcom's International plan: "The next major advances at Capcom will happen when we combine our design strengths with talent at Western design studios."
- On Fear and Japanese gamers: "Many Japanese gamers almost have a kind of Western game phobia and I think this kind of design methodology will give them enough mixture of West and East for them to appreciate. I think there's no denying it," stated Inafune. "Western games are here to stay, so Japanese gamers are going to eventually need to get behind this trend."
Dead Rising 2 will be out on the PS3, 360 and PC.
