Last night's Street Fighter IV launch party was quite the spectacle. More than a thousand people lined up to get into the event and hundreds were sadly shut out (this is what happens when you invite the world to a party via Facebook) -- even the VIP line was ridiculous! The fire marshal was concerned about the safety of the attendees (or he didn't want people to have fun) and ordered Capcom to stop letting people into the party. Most of the people in line gave up, but a good amount kept the faith and waited it out. They were rewarded with a cool party and an early copy of Street Fighter IV.
As for my showdown with TheFeed's Brian Leahy.... Well, the two of us arrived at the venue together. Only one of us went in. Brian claimed that the line was too crazy and he didn't want to deal. You can call that being sensible...or you can call that fleeing out of fear. I'll let you decide. Here are 12 more photos from the event.
#2 The line wrapped around the block. The rumor was that fans starting lining up at 1PM!
#3 These anxious souls were at the front of the line, but were halted by an evil force....
#4 The evil force was the fire marshal!
#5 These people were almost in the party. Almost there!
#6 Taboo from Black Eyed Peas checked out early. He's playing Vega in the next Street Fighter movie.
#7 You ever see this many Street Fighter fans in one place?
#8 The paper toys cracked me up.
#9 The fans wait for the next band to start.
#10 I was looking for the bathroom. The camera helped me find it.
#11 I'm still astounded by how many people showed up.
#12 Now playing...the band...I've never heard of!!!
#13 A shot from the VIP lounge. Where was Leahy?!? Oh yeah, he wussed out.
