Namco Bandai Planning To Acquire D3 Publisher?

Posted February 12, 2009 - By Raymond Padilla

It looks like Japanese game publishers are going on a shopping spree! Not only has Square Enix submitted a bid to acquire Eidos, but Andriasang has reported that Namco Bandai plans to buy out D3 Publisher.

"Bandai Namco Games declared its intentions today to stage a buyout of D3, the parent company of Simple Series publisher D3 Publisher. The company aims to turn D3 into a full subsidiary. Towards this end, it says that it has already reached an agreement with multiple D3 share holders, including majority shareholder Fields, to acquire some 70% of currently issued D3 shares. It hopes to acquire the full 100% of shares, with standard share price valued at 62,000 yen."

While it's arguably not as impactful as Square Enix acquiring Eidos, it's interesting that Namco Bandai is making this move. With severeal publishers and developers struggling in the current economic climate, there could be dozens of acquisitions in 2009.

Any thoughts on the deal? Would the new company be called Namco Bandai D3 (joke)? Think the new company would make a Ben 10 vs. Naruto game? Who would win that fight anyway?
