During New York Comic Con, Joshua Ortega, writer for Gears of War, claimed that the series was on a ten-year plan:
“You will not be disappointed in the next ten years. It’s a ten-year plan. Gears is long-term. The lancer is the new lightsaber.”
First of all, wow. The lancer, while awesome, is no lightsaber. Second of all, ten years? Really? Not so, says Epic Games VP Mark Rein (pictured right):
“In this industry you can’t plan games very far in advance. We appreciate the enthusiasm Josh has for our franchise but we don’t have a ten-year plan."
Rein also refused to say that Epic is working on Gears of War 3, but explained that they're "working on the next title update for Gears of War 2 right now. When this title update is done [they'll] start planning the next title update for Gears of War 2.”
I believe that Gears 3 will be ready to go in 2010 continuing the alternating cycle of Gears of War and Halo releases on the Xbox 360. What do you think?
