According to Japanese movie magazine Kinema Junpo (by way of 1up.com) Bandai Namco's Xbox 360 RPG Tales of Vesperia is being adapted for the big screen. The animated flick is going to be released some time this year and will be directed by Kanta Kamei, an animator making his directorial debut.
The only other info revealed has been that the movie's lead voice actor (Kosuke Toriumi, who portrayed hero Yuri in the original game) and the film's studio (Kadokawa Pictures).
The Tales series has shown up in animated form before--Phantasia, Eternia, Symphonia and Abyss have all been adapted into television and/or video anime--but Vesperia will be the first in theaters.
1Up.com speculates that, given Vesperia's status as the worst-selling but arguably, the most beloved of the games, could be that the new movie is designed to cross-promote something. Something like the rumored PlayStation 3 version, perhaps?
