The Utah Senate will soon vote on a bill written by videogame demonist Jack Thompson, which is nothing new, but what is new in this scenario is the idea that the bill might pass. The bill is framed to focus on advertisers who will be penalized for falsely advertising violent games to minors.
What's troubling about this particular effort is that Utah is the single most conservative place on Earth, having shot down a law to modernize their archaic alcohol regulations because kids shouldn't be able to see adults pour drinks. That's not a joke, it's real. The bill will be introduced by State Rep. Mike Morley (R), and, though there's a pretty good chance it won't pass, you never know.
What do you think? Do you feel taken in by advertisers when it comes to violent games, or are you pretty sure of what you're getting into ahead of time?
