Intel Inside For The PlayStation 4's GPU...And CPU Too?

It's a widely known fact that Intel has been gunning hard at Sony for the PlayStation 4. It's trying to set up its Larrabee GPU architecture in a big way. The Inquirer's sources have told it that Intel is in and Nvidia is out:

"Yeah, Intel won the PS4 GPU, no shock considering how much they needed a console win to get people coding for Larrabee. It seems Nvidia has proverbially bent Sony over like they did MS on the XBox, and are not really welcome there any more."

That's not all though. Ars-Technica has theorized that Intel has a shot at the PS4's CPU, as well. On one hand, Sony has invested a ton of money in developing Cell. On the other, it might feel burned by its partner IBM and Intel seems willing to throw a lot of money around to set up its Larrabee and Nehalem products.

"In today's world of shrinking margins, Sony's incentives have shifted 180 degrees, and with Larrabee (especially if it's paired with a Nehalem-derived CPU), Sony can actually boast, 'write it once, run it on the PlayStation 4 and the PC,'  to developers."

Intel's CPU chances in the PlayStation 4 seem like a longshot to me. I suppose a lot of it depends how Sony's gaming units perform over the next few years, but I can't really see things getting so bad that it would abandon Cell for some Intel money. Then again, if developers continue to struggle with the PlayStation 3's architecture then maybe an all-in-one solution for PC and PS4 gaming is just what the doctor ordered.... Nah, I still think that's too thin.

How about you? Do you think Intel has a shot at becoming the PlayStation 4's heart and soul?
